About Us

An honored torch to carry

As organizers of the revived Great Canoe Races of Naples, we came together to reintroduce a beloved waterfront tradition with fresh energy, thoughtful planning, and a strong sense of civic pride. Our goal is to honor Naples’ history while creating an inclusive, community-driven experience that supports local culture, creativity, and respect for our waterways.

Our Story

For decades, the Great Dock Canoe Race was a Naples fixture. First run in 1977, it began as a way for the staff at the Dock Restaurant to relax and unwind after the season. As the years passed, it grew and grew to become a major fixture of the “shoulder season,” attracting thousands of spectators and clogging Naples Bay with the spectator fleet.

The race succumbed to Covid-19 and the sale of the Dock and hadn’t been run since 2020.

After a hiatus of several years, the tradition made a highly anticipated return in 2025 at Baker Park.

That year’s event — the 45th edition — was reintroduced with broad community support and a refreshed format that included expanded activities such as vendor fairs, live entertainment, and dedicated heats (like first responders and creative “Build Your Vessel” races) designed to welcome a wide range of participants.
